2017 Quinta da Fonte Souto Vinha do Souto

50% Alicante Bouschet and 50% Shiraz. Despite its youth, the wine had thrown a thin crust on the inside of the bottle. 2 hour decant; dark purple colour, deep, intense and with a very narrow rim. Beautiful nose, sweet and perfumed. Lovely fruit on the palate, big tannic structure within a deep and rich sweet fruit surround. Stunning aftertaste, like biting into a liquid blackcurrant chocolate pudding. Such an intense finish, many minutes long. This is a brilliant wine which will age and develop wonderfully over the next decade. But leave it for 4-5 years. 95/100. Drunk 14-Nov-2020. Decanted 2 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
