2013 Quinta da Devesa Vinhas Velhas Douro DOC

Quinta da Devesa 2013 vinhas velhas Douro DOC: deep red with a slight black tone to the colour; 90% opaque. Sweet perfumed fruit, violets and bramble. Smooth fruit entry, rich and incredible depth. Massive tannins grip firmly but the fruit always dominates. The tannins is a little off putting but this is a huge wine, perhaps a little over-extracted. Concentrated black liquorice finish with a lovely violet perfume. Drunk 30 years too soon. 92/100. 2 hour decant (it needs much more if opening today). Drunk 30-Jan-2021.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
