Today I bought a Warre's Otima 10. I was rather amused to find the following passage on the label:
" ENJOY RESPONSIBLY
This bottle contains 10 UK units. UK Chief Medical Officers recommend not more than 3-4 units for men or 2-3 units for women daily."

Units of alcohol

Apparently we are allowed a few units a day.

Yeah, but that would roughly amount to only one glass of port a day...

So, probably not tell the wife

.
Warre's Otima 10, 500 ml bottle, 20% vol contains 10 UK units. That would mean that 1 UK unit = 10 ml (= 1 cl) of pure alchohol.
Here in Holland only the warning "Geniet maar drink met mate" (which means "enjoy but drink moderately") is displayed in advertisements. Nothing on the bottles, though...

Here is what is on the back labels of all alcoholic beverages in the US.
GOVERNMENT WARNING: (1) According to the Surgeon general, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
Studies since it was implemented in the late '80s have shown no drop in drinking....GO FIGURE

Wasn't the old motto of Yates Wine Lodges
'Moderation is true temperance'.
Do any of you remember Yates before they went up market (they couldn't go further down)? Does Australian Leading Port still exist? It was sold in half pint mugs I think.
