From half. 30 minute decant.

Deep, deep red, 95% opaque, crimson rim. The usual admirable legs.

Smells of ink and bruised mulberries. Allspice. A nod in the direction of aniseed but no ouzo heat.

Wash of rich plum compote on the palate, still quite primary. A little heat. Perhaps a bit simple? Certainly fades fairly fast (10 seconds) albeit to some quite interesting tannins. 100% cocoa powder, late.

A danger of sounding a bit damning as this is pleasant, and still too young, port but I suspect that in truth the base material is unexceptional.

+ 24 hours. Nose surprising dumb with a slightly spirity note.

Palate however much richer and more chewy at first, then medicinal cough sweet (strepsil blackcurrant, says my companion, 'a welcome thing if you have a sore throat') chocolate mid-late-palate, more creamy than yesterday.

I remain unconvinced of it as port, however.
