S45. Red, 40% opaque. Nose of meat—burnt beef—and dry. Palate big, rounded, soft, dry from mid-palate to the end of late-palate. Fantastic old totally-mature Port, some orange, and very dry in the late palate.

Red almost to the rim. Pine resin on the nose. In the mouth it has a cough-drop quality. I did not find this appealing, but that is me rather than it.

Sandeman 1945: decanted at 12.45 and tasted at 20.15; 50% opaque, wonderful mature russet red. Served in a room a little too warm so showing a lot of spirit on the nose, over a little dirty orange. Nice texture, dirty orange at first, lovely acidity keeping the wine very lively. Fresh aftertaste, generous orange although the orange is slightly mould tainted. Pleasant and enjoyable — but not a great wine. 83/100.

30% copper-amber. Toffee and strawberry on the nose. Lovely rich, full mouthfeel, gentle heat all along, toffee, concentrated starwberry syrup.
