Warre Private Cellar & Other Late Releases vs “Normal” Bottlings - CANCELLED

Post by nac »

In the build-up to the Warre 350 tasting (and afterwards that evening whilst sharing a bottle of Burgundy) Mr Carter and I were discussing a tasting to compare the Warre Private Cellar bottlings against regular UK (and other) bottlings.

We think this means:
  • The readily available 1970 PC vs “normal” 1970s (of which there are lots)
  • The quite rare 1960 PC vs “normal” 1960s
  • The very rare 1966 PC vs “normal” 1966s
  • The possibly soon-to-be-released 1994 PC vs a released in 1996 bottle
Clearly there are other contenders (for example Cockburn 1970).

Red Room @ The Boot & Flogger is booked for evening of Tuesday 11th October 2022.
POSTPONED UNTIL THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY 2023
VENUE = RED ROOM @ B&F

NOW CANCELLED OR MAYBE POSTPONED

Priority will be given to those with appropriate bottles, but there may be opportunities to adopt. Irrespective there will need to be a sharing of costs.

With a number of 1970s involved, I'm certainly interested. But likely to need to adopt so understand that may put me back in the queue a little.

Yes please. I only have W77 and W75 “normal” bottlings, though.

Proposed date for this is Wednesday 16th February 2022.

Red Room @ The Boot & Flogger is booked.

I’ll start work on confirming the line-up in a few weeks, so you’ve all got time to work out what appropriate bottles you have available. I’ll also need to know associated costs. No rush, but free feel to PM or email me.

Re: Warre Private Cellar vs “Normal” Bottlings - POSTPONED

Unfortunately, I've now got a work conflict on 16th Feb, so need to postpone this.

I suspect some people may still want to make use of the date, so should I leave the booking open for a bring-a-bottle dinner? If so, is the preference for this to be in the Green Room (assuming it's available)?

I'll set up and manage the alternative function.

Neil - are you still planning to hold this tasting during 2022? I'm sorting my diary for the second half of the year and want to attend this one, if I can.

A very reasonable prompt. Yes, maybe backend of the year. I’ll check my diary and propose a date.

Warre Private Cellar etc vs “Normal” Bottlings - Tues 11 Oct

Post by nac »

This event has now been rescheduled for Tuesday 11th October 2022. Venue is Red Room at the Boot & Flogger. Let’s say 1800 for 1830 kickoff.

The theme has also changed.

Rather than just the Warre Private Cellar or museum releases, it’s being opened up for all such wines. For example, I’m aware that there was a release of Cockburn 1970 a few years ago. The plan is to compare such releases alongside well-stored original releases.

So, please confirm availability for the new date and also offer up suggestions for wines that should/could be included and what you can offer (by DM or email if you wish).

Date sadly unlikely to work for me, I have a heavy week in terms of logistics.

I regret that I cannot make the new date. Such a pity since I love the theme.
