1950 Offley

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Level base of neck. Cork disintegrated on removal. Identity of the wine was confirmed by the remnants of the wax seal and its similarity to the bottle opened on 25 Feb 2020. Double-decanted 24 hour before drinking and sealed under vacu-vin. Gentle copper colour, 30% opaque. Slight oxidation on the nose, showing some gentle minerality. Mineral entry before a barley sugar palate. The wine is slightly oxidised but the butterscotch and acidity keep the balance. Hot aftertaste but a nice golden syrup and marmalade finish. Pity the wine has been slightly damaged. 82/100. Drunk 10-May-21.
