2019 Churchill Gricha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A half bottle cask sample sent with the Commemorative box of 3 bottles of Gricha 2019 offered to members of the Port Club.

A perfect opulent Imperial Purple with a narrow rim. On the nose this shows a wonderful floral perfume integrated into a blueberry / bramble fruit mix. Smooth entry, a hint of tannins lurking within the fruit - a hint which grows gently to become a definite reality! The fruit is perfumed and elegant, refined and pure with none of the jamminess or over-sweet tones encountered in hotter years. The balance on the wine is delightful, with a big, menthol-heated aftertaste and long black chocolate and menthol finish.

I love the elegance of this wine, so refined. Tasted 13-Nov-2021. Decanted 30 minutes. 90-92/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
