Pretty common practice these days. If you buy something you've demonstrated interest in their products, so they give you a discount on your next purchase to encourage you to come back.

One of our licensees does that so aggressively that if you visit the site, log in, and put something in your basket, don't check out, and leave the site, you'll get an offer for a discount. Which you then go back and use for your original purchase.
There's a 15% discount code, BTW. Just a minor irritation - don't think you can do anything but perhaps highlight to Academie du Vin that their marketing could alienate people. Having placed an order for multiple purchases, to then receive a discount offer is a bit annoying
