2019 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Half bottle cask sample. Wonderful effusive nose, full of flowers and sweet black fruit. Fruit dominates the palate, ripe and well defined but bounded by powerful acidity. There are some soft and ripe tannins hidden in the fruit. Tannins which show themselves mostly as a dark chocolate component in the fragrant fruit. The sweet bramble and dark chocolate dominate the long aftertaste, where the acidity really emphasises its presence. This is a very well made wine, made from top quality fruit which is incredibly easy to drink today but which will certainly cellar for a long time due to the pronounced acidity 88-90/100. Tasted 25-Dec-21. Opened 1 hour prior to tasting.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
