1992 Taylor

Post by winesecretary »

Dark as anything. Big deep nose of dark fruits. Massive rich port on the palate, but without the soaring fruit I have experienced previously. Really good, but a little closed tonight.

Consumed 6/4/22.

Deep red colour, opaque core and a narrow rim. Slightly unpleasant nose, either dirty of perhaps a little out of kilter. The initial impact on the palate is better than suggested by the nose, but there is a touch of dirt or something odd to the fruit. On the mid-palate this shows as big, young and fills the mouth with fine-grained tannins. Stunning finish, so long and so rich. This is a big, young Port which is still youthful but out of balance and rather closed. A wine to return to in 5 years. Past experience suggests this will be a great wine but it's not drinking well today. 89/100. Tasted 06-Apr-22.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Deep garnet, with intense aromatics such as black cherry, hints of blackberry jam, star anise, mint, cranberry. Some perfume on the nose too. A sweet palate with high acidity, smooth tannins and a long finish. Great stuff, would like to try it again at some point in the future to see its development. Perhaps it has some way to go. 91/100, tasted 06-Apr-22.

65% opacity, dark red. Unripe concentrated fruit on the nose. Full, smooth, powerful concentrated black cherry.
