Peter Bayly Cape Vintage 2012 from half bottle, Calitzdorp, South Africa. 44% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Barroca and 26% Souzão foot trodden and naturally fermented, matured in seasoned large oak casks for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Deep red with a brick tone, opaque centre and a narrow rim. When first opened the nose was full of baked red fruit. 20 hours later the nose has become much more attractive, now showing sweet Victoria plum and violets. Light on the palate, restrained baked fruit with a powerful acidity and subtle tannins. Great fragrance with air, bringing masses of fruit onto the palate Very youthful and assertive. Lots of acidity on the aftertaste, menthol on the finish which slowly fades to release a dry edged redcurrant / blackcurrant long fruit finish. Very pleasant. 87/100. Drunk 24-Feb-22. Decanted 20 hours.
