2000 Faustino I

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Opened 16-Apr-2022 after a hard day of working in the garden. Originally planned to accompany tomorrow's barbecue roasted leg of lamb but needs must and it was opened today.

Lovely cheery (not a typo) fruit on the nose, sweet and fragrant. The lovely fruit follows onto the palate where it is ably supported by an acidity which keeps the palate fresh and bright. Lovely tannins initially, fine-grained and so ripe as to provide grip without distraction - but these faded after a couple of hours in the decanter (or perhaps a couple of hours of drinking the wine). A very fine aftertaste which can be contemplated and dissected for several minutes. 92/100.

This would have gone beautifully with tomorrow's lamb but I will have to choose something else, perhaps a classic claret / lamb combo...
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
