Port at Vinum Fine Wines

Post by Nelly »

Hi everyone.
As some of you know, I work for London based merchant Vinum Fine Wines. We’re mostly specialising in wines, however, occasionally we have some great stuff in ports as well, which I’ll post here.
If you are looking for something specific, don’t hesitate to contact me directly and I’ll see what I can do.
Thank you,
Nelly

1882 Ne Oublie Grahams Port 100/100!

Post by Nelly »

3 x 1 Ne Oublie Vintage Tawny Port vinified in 1882 @ £4990 per Decanter in bond 100/100 JS

100 points - James Suckling: “Loads of dried fruit with apricot and Brazilian limes. Full body and very sweet. Bright acidity. The density and purity of this port is astonishing. Honey, caramel and dried fruits. Gets fresher and fresher on the palate. Goes on for minutes. Leaves me speechless.” July 2014

Financial Times – John Stimpfig: “This virtually immortal 1882 has such enormous color, depth, viscous concentration and intensity of flavor that it really has to be tasted to be believed.”

MW - Jancis Robinson: “Once the little tasting bottles were opened at the launch in Christie’s, London the whole room was perfumed. Impressively clean and pure.”

The Daily Telegraph – Victoria Moore: “It’s an incredible piece of history (...) I could smell it a foot away from the glass, curling, intense... then tasting rich with dried fruit and toasted almonds underneath it.”

"This is a treat, never to be repeated" (Richard Mayson) - Taylor's Very Very Old Platinum Jubilee Tawny Port

Post by Nelly »

Taylor’s Platinum Jubilee Very Very Old Tawny Port

£289 per bottle in bond or £350 inc Duty and VAT - 60 bottles available in individual OWCs

*A special edition of ancient Tawny Port released to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee*
*Rated at a near-perfect 19.5 points by expert Richard Mayson*
*Only 2,000 released*

To celebrate the upcoming Platinum Jubilee of The Queen, the famous Port House of Taylor’s has released something incredible, the Platinum Jubilee Very Very old Tawny Port. A blend of the finest Tawny Ports in casks in the cellars of Taylors, just 2,000 bottles have been filled, with a liquid that is, in the words of expert Richard Mayson, "a treat, never to be repeated”. I am delighted to have some to offer today.

Taylor’s won’t say how old the Ports are but will concede that they have been ageing for at least as long as The Queen has been on the throne, with some as old as 80 and 90 years. The resulting blend is profound in quality.

For Richard Mayson, this is "wonderfully fresh and precise on the palate, intensely sweet, spicy honeyed fruit, long and mellifluous, undeniably rich but stops short of cloying, the richness offset by a streak of acidity, glorious finish that goes on and on and on” and he awarded a near-perfect 19.5 points.

It is a glorious bottle of Tawny Port, released in limited amounts. Details are below, do take a look and let me know if you would like any secured for your account.

This is a treat, never to be repeated. David Guimaraens who blended the wine said to me it is ‘a blend of the finest I have’ and hopes that Her Majesty gets to drink a glass of it (however I heard recently that HM is no longer drinking!). David was understandably coy about what went into the blend (and there is no indication of age but it is ‘very, very old’). Having tasted the wine I fully believe him when he says it is our ‘finest’ (and there is considerable loyalty to the monarchy at the British end of the Port trade): deep mature amber-tawny hue; lovely, lifted, delicate spicy aromas with a touch of torrefaction (coffee) and honey; wonderfully fresh and precise on the palate, intensely sweet, spicy honeyed fruit, long and mellifluous, undeniably rich but stops short of cloying, the richness offset by a streak of acidity, glorious finish that goes on and on and on. 2,000 bottles in total, priced at £350.00 a bottle. www.richardmayson.com

Offered subject to final confirmation and remaining unsold. Available in 2-4 weeks.

This seems pretty good value especially compared to the 2020 Warre and Graham on the other thread (similar volumes as well).

And much more within our price range than the Kingsman release a few months ago.

It’s also a delicious Port. I posted a TN a few days ago - it is really nice.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

I hope it comes to the US, but given its reason for being I doubt it will. Which means I'll have to order some and have it delivered to Seckford's.
