Tue 17 May 2022 - White Port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Nelly organised a tasting and, for her first theme threw, a real curveball - white aged Ports. Glenn very kindly curated the tasting for us, ensuring that we brought something different and tasted the wines in an order which made sense (at least it did to him). All were served blind so we only knew the identity of the bottle we brought.

It was such a pleasure to be able to taste 9 different aged white Ports side-by-side like this. There were some nice surprises and some disappointments but the tasting reminded me just how much I love white Port!

The wines we tasted in tasting order were:
  1. 2005 Kopke White Colheita
  2. NV Andresen White 10YO
  3. NV Poças White 10YO
  4. NV Quinta do Manoella White 10YO from Wine & Soul
  5. NV Quinta da Devesa White 10YO
  6. NV Quinta da Devesa White 20YO
  7. 2003 Kopke White Colheita
  8. 1989 Barao de Vilar White Colheita
  9. NV Andresen White 40YO
Tasting notes and links to tasting notes have all been posted. Please feel free to add your thoughts and comments!
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
