2001 Warre Cavadinha

Another of the awful corks from the early 2000’s which just explodes into fragments when pulled from the bottle with a corkscrew.
The wine is a fabulous dark red, the colour of black cherry juice. Pure fruit on the nose, sweet and fragrant, a blend of black cherry and ripe, sweet blackcurrant. Less overtly fruity on the palate, while there is plenty of fruit, the fruit sits within a lovely basket of acidity and gentle tannins. Warm menthol on the aftertaste gives way to a rich blackcurrant and dark chocolate finish which goes on for ages. While youthful, this is a lovely and typical balanced Warre which is still developing the finesse and elegance it will have when fully mature - but is absolutely delicious now. 90/100.
