1966 Warre

One of three bottles obtained from VWP in January 2022. Plain replacement labels, but apparently bottled by Matthew Gloag.

Green (slightly lighter than BRG) wax capsule; some signs of old(?) seepage; upper-shoulder level. Cork pretty good and branded "WARRE'S VINTAGE 1966". Fairly heavy sediment, but maybe not quite as much as might be expected.

Double decanted and a glass immediately poured. The remains Vac-U-Vined and will be further reported.

Clear and bright; 40%; definite browning.
Nose quite closed, as clearly needs some decant time, but already showing some nice fruit (orange?) and licorice.
Palate more advanced. Good structure with still evident tannin and acidity. Licorice not evident on palate - more leather, no fruit.

Looking forward to the rest of the bottle over the next few days.

The vac-u-vined remainder was generously shared with me on 2 August 2022. Clear and bright. Somewhat more garnet to my eyes than nac's note above suggests.

Distinct minty nose.

The primary fruit somewhat faded, but still some sloes and cherries albeit in their gin and brandy forms respectively.

Long warm finish.

Very good port.
