Despite the heat, I’ve managed to keep up my Port consumption. Last night I discovered that Churchill Reserve is a lovely, fruity drink when fridge cold.

Any other suggestions as to why I try once this bottle is finished would be appreciated!

I was wondering about a bottle of young VP but then the Bar Douro wine club has just delivered a bottle of Niepoort “Trudy” Ruby so I think I might move on to that.

(PS. That photo was from last night. Even I don’t drink Port at 8.45am on a Sunday morning...).

Plenty of folk do, even if they don't realise it, at least for Anglicans.

n.b. while I have the pedant hat on, your current signature says "... Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port." Clearly you have; you lucky man!

As to what to try next... perhaps a Kopke white if still in today or tomorrow's heat, or maybe a young colheita if the day after when it has cooled slightly - how about a Quevedo '94 if you have one?

A friend of mine used to tell me that those very early communion services should be seen as a late night activity rather than an early morning one!

PS: I appreciate the subtly of your post: Catholics might also be consuming something that once came from a Port bottle at the same time, but it will not be Port...

PPS: This is also giving me terrible flashbacks to Palwin № 4 which is the fortified wine that inexplicably gets used for religious purposes amongst much of Anglo-Jewery.

Good catch. Posted on an iPhone my fat fingers or autocorrect wrote the wrong word. Hopefully it should clearly have read “what”, not “why”.

The enforced brevity of a signature block necessitated a small sacrifice of syntax. I hoped my true meaning of “I have never *before* drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port.” was reasonably clearly implied.

Thank you. I will probably finish the Churchill Reserve tonight and then open something in accordance with the theme of tomorrow’s emergency. Later this week might give me opportunity to follow up.
