1963 Andresen Colheita (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A cask sample drawn about 6 hours before being tasted.

Andresen 1963 cask sample: the last wine Carlos Flores’s grandfather made. So dark in colour! A massive and concentrated nose with vinagrinho and marmite. On the palate this wine has more restraint than the nose suggested - but once the restraint passes the power kicks in and the wine explodes in flavour and structure. Grapefruit acidity, jellied orange fragrance, and so many layers of flavour you lose track because the power of the acidity forces you to swallow the wine. Which, of course, allows the incredible aftertaste and complex finish to reveal themselves. This is such a huge, balanced yet complex wine. Amazing, and a real privilege to have been able to taste it. 99/100. The grapes used to make this wine came from the vineyards used to make the 1970 colheita. Tasted 14-Oct-22.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
