1992 Fonseca

Fonseca 1992, from the wine list of the Hotel du Vin in Stratford for £125 (they also had Noval 2003 for £95 and Graham 10YO, 20YO and 30YO). Decanted about 2 hours. A wonderful mature dark red with an element of brick to the tone; 90% opaque. A wonderful nose of mature fruit, complex with spices, dried red fruit and aniseed. An explosion of flavour on the palate, dominated by mature fruit yet with a powerful acidity arrowing through the palate. The fruit is immense, bitter sweet, ripe cranberry with layer after layer of spice and some lovely, ripe fine-grained tannins. Fabulous complex palate. The aftertaste is intense, full and cranberry and aniseed. Long finish, full and dense. Fabulous Port, showing a little maturity and starting to develop some secondary spices. Superb Port, still with decades of life in the cellar. 94/100. Consumed 30-Jul-22.

A port to add to the cellar for sure. Particularly when better priced than the Taylor

The '92 Taylor's is a spectacular Port. I like it better than the '94, but you're right, the price is disproportionately higher than the '92 Fonseca.
