1997 Quevedo Colheita (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1997 colheita, matured in tonel of about 3,000 litres capacity. Deep russet red with a wide rim. Wonderful spicy nose. Smooth on the palate, slight torrefaction tone to the dried fruit; generous acidity provides terrific focus and power. The acidity is a touch overwhelming on the aftertaste, proving a little hot, but the heat dissipates quickly to delivery a warm aniseed and caramel finish which goes through multiple phases of flavour and just never finishes. This is a great wine today, but will make an immense and stunning colheita in the decades to come. 92/100. Tasted 30-Jan-23. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
