Anyone interested in a Six Grapes Tasting?

Grahams have so far released 3 special editions of Six Grapes - Vinha Velha, River Quintas and Vila Velha.

I bought some Vinha Velha. Vila Velha is still available. If someone else bought River Quintas would there be any interest in holding a Graham Six Grapes Tasting with the three special editions, a recently purchased bottle and a bottle of Six Grapes with some bottle age on it?

That sounds like fun. Would be keen dependant on date.

Does anyone have an old bottle?

Presumably there are lots of ways of expanding that tasting if necessary.

Have we done in the past decade a 'basic port tasting'?

With the bar being set at current retail of say 16 quid?

It might not be massively enjoyable but it would be illuminating.

Might also be quite interesting to do a clear out of some of the more premium rubies from smaller / independent places being offered by Portugal Vineyards or something. They’ve got ones by Quinta do Javali, Quinta do Infantado, Quinta da Foz, Blackett, Kranemann, Morgadio da Calçada etc. etc. which could potentially be quite interesting.

Yes - I don't know exactly how old, but I have a Graham's Six Grapes of some antiquity (it has a driven cork)

I would love a Six Grapes tasting. I would also love to do this.

I would equally love any Port tating.

I'm in.

There’s enough interest. I’ll propose a date shortly.

Ian - given you’ve got the River Quintas version, what dates in March could you not make?

OK. We’ve located sources of all three special editions, Tom has a bottle with some antiquity.

Anyone volunteering a bottle of recently purchased Six Grapes?

I am guessing this tasting will be pre-summer. If it doesn’t happen for any reason until the autumn I would hope to be able to attend and have a Tappit Hen of the standard Six Grapes which I would be happy to throw into the mix.

I’m sure I can sort out a standard bottle of the six grapes! Does anyone have a Nº12 Ruby or a Natura Reserve? It feels to me we might do the whole range...

Am I am interested, mildly. If there are more bottles than people, by such a margin that more people are wanted, then please may I join and buy my share?

I appreciate that we don’t generally do Port and food tastings, but I have just remembered that the (excellent) Northern-Portuguese chocolate shop called Chocolataria Equador makes a chocolate bar with a Six-Grapes flavoured ganache. It’s quite a similar to their generic dark chocolate and Port bar. I feel if we are going to do this properly, we should try to get some of these, if anyone happens to have a trip to Porto in the near future.

I now have bottles of the Old Vines and Vila Velha editions at my house. Ian has River Quintas.

I’ll check some dates and post some options in the next day or so.

Neil has very helpfully updated the Tastings Planner, which has reminded me that I have not yet set a date for the Six Grapes tasting.

Given that these are reserve rubies, they don't mind being chilled. The Boot & Flogger has some reasonable air conditioning in the red room.

We have no tastings yet planned for July or August.

Does anyone object to me choosing a date in the summer for this tasting? Any dates anyone interested in attending would like me to avoid?

Just to keep everything in one place, I’ve had requests to avoid the week of 10th July and the 2 weeks from 20th July.

I will drop from this as the summer is tricky, and as much of a Six Grapes fan I am, if I have to ration my tastings, this is one I can miss without significant tears.
