2001 Warre Cavadinha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

WC01 decanted 1 day. Dark red with a medium to narrow rim. Delicious nose, full of black plum fruit and flower perfume. Smooth texture entry. Lovely dark fruit with a touch of tannin. Young but with a little assuredness from some maturity; great balance. Fragrant fruit aftertaste and a long dark fruit finish. The only drawback of this wine is the density and intensity of the fruit in this wine - little more and it would have been a stunning wine. But make no mistake, this is delicious drinking now and for the next 50 years. 91/100.

Tasted at the Warre Cavadinha Vertical on 28th March 2023.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

WC01. Dark dark dark red, 90% opaque. Liked: black fruits, mint, some Taylor-style grit.

60% opacity, deep red. Concentrated bramble. Soft entry, some gentle gripping tannin, blackcurrant, full, pepper.
