2011 Fortnum and Mason

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From Niepoort. Opened at 20.00, decanted at 07.30 and drunk at 18.00. Deep red in colour with a narrow rim. Bright fruit on the nose. The fruit on the palate is sweeter and riper than suggested by the nose, but the fruit is bright and full of an immense acidity. The acidity creates a sensation of black peppercorn and chilli sitting within the fruit. The fine-grained charcoal tannins linger in the cocoa and blackcurrant finish. This is a big and uncompromising Port; very impressive with great balance despite its youth. 93/100. Drunk 24-Apr-23.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
