1963 Cockburn

Post by winesecretary »

A perfectly stored bottle at the house of someone given it by a godparent on reaching their maturity in 1990. An argument yet again for buying port and leaving it in one place…

Decanted 4 hours in advance which was possibly a shade too long.

Really beautiful mature red, no real opacity in the glass.

Dusty cherries on the nose. Wine gums on the palate. Long sweet finish with just the merest touch of cinnamon, the tannins completely resolved.

Probably at its best 20 years ago but still a very comforting port which three of us pretty much dispatched after dinner.

Consumed 21/5/23
