Bottled by J G Thompson of Leith in ‘Autumn 1962’

Decanted 2100

Not opaque. Orange rim, but the centre the most glorious crimson.

Nose has notes of aguardiente and redcurrant. Some star anise, later.

Lovely soft mouthfeel. Almonds and cherry blossom.

Bakewell tart. Some white pepper, very late, early but that is fading after an hour or so.

This is truly delicious; old wine, now, but still a pleasure.

Colour has darkened and this has, interestingly, and for me a little unexpectedly, gained a lot of weight.

Nose has acquired more griotte and strawberry notes - more port-like and indeed Graham - like than yesterday.

Mouthfeel continues glycerine - rich.

Much more of the fig and prune and liquorice and chocolate and chocolate orange across the palate than yesterday.

It is not at this moment massively inferior to the absolutely super Noval Nacional 1960 I had 5 years ago which remains my benchmark for the vintage. And given the 1000% cost disparity that is really saying something.

Damn, last glass. Good I’m on holiday tomorrow.
