1855 Taylor Colheita (Scion)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Taylor Scion 1855: a lovely mature brown in colour, with a medium rim. Modest showing on the nose, bringing sweet lemon and candied peanuts. Gentle acidity on the palate, with a lovely balance to the wine highlighting the smooth hazelnut and lemon flavours. Rounded, and complete; not an intense wine but a wine which is so complete and has such elegance. Such an exquisite wine, so lovely!  99/100. Drunk 01-Jun-23. Allowed to sit in the glass for ½ an hour or so before this tasting note was written.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

black brown color, excellent balance of sweetness, acidity, taste and finish. Taste after figs and nuts and lingers for very long on the palate. Fantastic port which was for me only marginally behind the 1863, 1896 and 1882.

Again dark to the rim.

Restrained nose.

Deep, rich and meaty palate.

Very sweet finish.
