Dark brown in colour with a very narrow rim. Intense nose, powerful orange caramel laced with a lovely floral acidity. The intensity also appears on the palate with a thick texture and acidity that is a little more restrained than in the 1896 Taylor Colheita tasted alongside. Rich and powerful, offering honeyed lemon on the palate and honeyed lemon on the aftertaste. The wine has a spectacular balance, with an intense honeyed flavour on the palate and the long aftertaste. Great colheita Port. 99/100. Drunk 01-Jun-23. Tasting note written after the wine had sat in the glass for about a ½ hour.

For me this 1863 Colheita was the star of the evening. On the already perfect and extremely concentrated 1896 this was another level up in concentration, sweetness and boldness. I could barely detect a rim and it had as well this blackish color with brown reflexes. Despite being nearly 40 years older! Brilliant port which was more limey in taste aside figs and dried fruits. The acidity and sweetness profile reminded me of 19th century madeira. This will be still youthful and fresh in the next 50 years plus! Amazing port!

Absolutely black to rim.

Incredible intensity. Incredible depth of taste. Very sweet.

Madeira level intensity (to echo Wolfgang).
