Cliff decided that we needed a Celebration of 1955, and volunteered many many bottles. Harry organised. Others were grateful. It started at lunchtime, on Tuesday 13th June 2023, at the Boot & Flogger.
Light bronze in colour, about 30% opaque. A gentle and slightly smoky nose of dried orange zest. Light on the palate, gentle and with a lovely elegance - sweet and honeyed with a little lemon oil giving a layer of pleasant fragrance and filling out nicely on the palate. The aftertaste shows more honey and lemon and has an impressive length. I enjoyed this wine, one of the best of Hopper's Vintage Ports I have had the pleasure of drinking. 90/100.
Tasted 13-Jun-23. Decanted 14 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
