Cliff decided that we needed a Celebration of 1955, and volunteered many many bottles. Harry organised. Others were grateful. It started at lunchtime, on Tuesday 13th June 2023, at the Boot & Flogger.
Mature bronze colour, 50% opaque. A soapy redcurrant nose - perhaps more of a floral perfume. Languid, satin texture on the palate; mature red fruit with even a touch of cedar and tobacco. The cedar also appears on the aftertaste before a long aniseed finish which delivers a really interesting burst of persimmon at the end. This is a very impressive Port. 93/100. Tasted 13-Jun-23.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
