Cliff decided that we needed a Celebration of 1955, and volunteered many many bottles. Harry organised. Others were grateful. It started at lunchtime, on Tuesday 13th June 2023, at the Boot & Flogger.
A medium brick-red colour, mature and around 40% opaque. Subdued on the nose, a little fruit at first but fruit which turns dirty with time in the glass. Dry on the palate, palate holding firm tannins within a mouthful of sweet and fragrant redcurrant fruit. A little bitterness in the aftertaste and aniseed balls finish. Nice Port, but slightly flawed. 88/100. Tasted 13-Jun-23.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
