2020 Quevedo

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Quevedo 2020, bottled in 9cl for the 2022 Advent calendar. 2020 was a very small, very fast harvest with Touriga Franca starting to dehydrate in the second half of September. This Vintage blend is from grapes grown in Vale d'Agodinho and Trovisca.

Dark purple colour with a narrow rim. A little tanky on the nose with blueberry fruit and black mint dominating. Smoother than expected on entry; restrained on the palate with the fruit reluctant to show. Eventually the fruit shows with a lovely purity to it. The tannins are ripe and very well wrapped in the fruit, with the whole package being built around a core of citrus acidity. The young and vigorous fruit blossoms on the aftertaste, the lemon oil and lime acidity lingers a long time on the finish. Elegant and ethereal, this is a refined and delicate Port that will age with such grace and elegance. A wonderful contrast in style from the 2019 tasted alongside. 90-92/100. Drunk 14-Feb-23. Pop 'n' pour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
