NV Penfolds Grandfather Tawny

This was very sweet, very sticky and over-priced. While it was reasonably pleasant, I avoided any chance of a second glass at any point in my visit to Oz.
I don't recommend this to a lover of Vintage Port.

It is, however, a nice dessert wine.
I have found numerous Aussie "ports" that are dreadful when consumed as Port, but are in fact quite decent dessert wines if you consume them as such.

I've had several different dessert wines while out here, mostly botrytised semillion or riesling. I love dessert wines, but I have to say that I'll probably not try Penfold's Grandfather again - partly because they're difficult to get hold of in the UK and partly because I'm just not used to them.
But that is a purely personal thing. I'm not saying you're wrong, just the Grandfather Tawny wasn't what my palate is used to.

Did you come across the "Benjamin" tawny? It really does exist and I am keen to try!
My expectations are not high given it is part of the Fosters stable and retails for about AUD20 or less I think!

Sadly, I didn't come across the Benjamin Tawny. After my experience with the Grandfather, I avoided Aussie ports and instead enjoyed some very nice botrytis dessert wines.
