Vermouth, aged for over 100 years. Port wine base, probably red Port. Very similar in colour to the VVO, not racked or worked due to the difficulty in cleaning pumps and hoses afterwards. Perhaps a little darker than the VVO. Less râncio on the nose, a little vanilla, a little wood ash. 215g RS today, but 80-100g when first made over 100 years ago. A lovely light vanilla dances over the palate, honeyed but wonderfully balanced. The wormwood is subtle, the flavours beautifully balanced with an astonishing citrus core to the aftertaste. Long, long finish which reveals one layer of flavour after another. Stunning coffee at the end. Superb. 98/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
