1977 Warre

The usual light red, more rose than garnet, of Warre 1977.

Both the almond crumb and the raspberry jam of the Bakewell tart were present and correct. Decanted for two hours and consumed over two nights and every glassful good drinking. Better on its own than with anything. Cheese interfered with the violets on the nose.

I think I find bottles of the widely available Warre 1970 and 1977 more satisfyingly delicious than any other ports from that or any earlier decade. Rarely absolutely tremendous (some recent 1966 and 1970 from good sources, and some spectacular older bottles at the Warre vertical) but it is often very good indeed, as was this one.
