Opened as part of a port tasting with friends to introduce them to a number of styles.

Red fruits with a citrus note on the nose. Beautiful entry on the palate, with strawberries and red cherries giving way to a gorgeous wave of orange acidity - think posh orange jelly sweets. The tannins kick in later and dry everything out. There's a long finish dominated by the orange acidity.

I love Cavadinha. It’s not a bold style like FG or Malvedos, but more elegant that just gets better with age.

I have a few bottles of this from when it was being sold off cheaply by one of the supermarkets and I'll be holding some of them to see how it ages. The first bottle I opened a few years ago was still quite aggressively tannic but that had settled down in this one.

By chance I am also drinking Warre Cavadinha 2001 this weekend and can confirm its deliciousness. A separate note will follow.
