2000 Fonseca

Post by jdaw1 »

As organised by George G., on Monday 10th February 2025, Some of the usual folks gathered in the Boot & Flogger, for a horizontal of 2000s.

Woe betide! What has become of us‽ A horizontal of Port from this century. Yes yes, the world has other disasters afoot, but this disaster is afoot here: what has become of us‽

F00. Others thought wonderful, but they were wrong. Dark dark red, 85% opaque. Dry; hot; and slightly wrong. Just not in balance. It needs cellar time. It may well be that this will shine, but not yet — wait a decade.

I liked this as it was, smooth and pleasant and very drinkable right now, however I can well imagine it improving with time

Deep and dark. Big lush sweet thick port. Liked.

[Reading the tasting notes I wonder if Julian's Taylor and Fonseca glasses got switched.]

F00: Gently mature appearance. Wonderful nose of glorious fruit. Just as wonderful on the palate with a mouthful of fruit still containing a scattering of tannins. Gentle grip on the aftertaste, lingering finish full of fruit. Very impressive. Big and chunky Port which will mature into a delicious wine. 93 /100
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
