1966 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1966 Fonseca, bottled by Matthew Gloag & Son Ltd of Perth. Decanted 1 hour. Dark red colour, but with a mature tone; 80% opaque. Spiced cranberry on the nose, lively and full of fresh fruit. The palate is just as impressive, full of acidity and spritely youth; fresh cranberry and a bit of sour juniper. A huge aftertaste of fruit, dominated by the cranberry and acidity which just goes on forever. This is a stunning bottle of an amazingly youthful Port, which is evolving and developing at a glacial pace - but this confirms the high esteem in which I hold this Port. This will be as good as Croft 1945 in time. Needs longer in the decanter to show at its best. Fabulous. 95/100. Tasted 23-Mar-25.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
