The first of two bottles purchased from VWP in January 2022.

Just spotted that there's a tasting note in the Michael Broadbent's "The Great Vintage Wine Book" (the original 1980 version):

Cabral
Bottled 1973: fully mature looking; raisiny aroma; quite pleasant but little to it.
Tasted July 1979 ** (out of *****) Drink now to 1985.

Michael and I are in complete agreement.it was by no means the worst on the night but I didn’t take a sample home!

Cabral 1970: orange, 15% opaque; nose described only as “no”; palate as “very varnishy, but less bad than the nose.”

Nice clear pale red. Mute nose. Palate warm and increasingly acrid.

1970 Cabral. Very pale appearance, only 10% opaque. A little redcurrant cordial on the nose. The palate is better with the slightly sour berry flavour that continues rather nicely into the finish. If the nose was a little more developed, this would be rather a nice wine. 86/100. Double decanted 9 hours.
