Thienpoint (Butler Nephew) 1970: dark red, 70% opaque; sweet and soft, this has presence, with mint and sugar and milk chocolate and honey. I gave two points to both this and the Dolamore, but many favoured this BN and weren’t necessarily wrong.

A genuine decent red port colour. Richly fruited palate. Good drinking.

1970 Thienpoint, made for the Belgian supermarket by Butler Nephew. Bottled in Belgium. One of the darkest of the wines in flight 0 at about 70% opaque. Swirling releases some attractive dark berry fruit on the nose but the palate is a little more subdued that expected from the nose. Less evolved on the palate than most of this flight (flight 0) the wine shows more blackthorn and juniper with a lovely dryness on the fruit. Rather bright and lovely, with a delicious lingering blackcurrant and blackthorn finish. Great length. 88/100. A genuinely nice Port rather than one I would like but most would consider too old.
