Av70: red-brown, 45% opaque; this is dry, balanced, mid+ weight, perfectly mature and touched with white pepper.

But other side of the table (I was ‘pink’ window side, other was ‘green’ wall side) was rubbish.

I'm not sure why JDAW thought the bottle I tasted was "rubbish". I rather liked it...

1970 Avery, from Avery of Bristol. A delightful dark bronze colour, 80% opaque. Nice fresh fruit cocktail on the nose. Silky texture with gentle tannin on a fruit core that is starting to dry out - probably due to age. The aftertaste is rich, full of spiced fruit and a touch of cedar. Late on the finish is a warming tone of red cinnamon. Lovely. 92/100. Double decanted 5 hours.

Note taken on 12/10/25 from sample kindly bottled on night. Pleasant port, perhaps somewhat elderly overall, but rather attractive darker fruit. Finish is good. Needs no more time.
