Ck70: red-brown, 70% opaque; dry, thin, mid-palate a deep sting. Far past prime.

1970 Cockburn, from a case which was the first case bought and stored by Ben Read! Mature bronze colour, about 70% opaque. A strange nose, perhaps with a little VA intruding onto the fruit. The VA shows on the palate as a bitter tone to the sweet fruit. Bitter on the aftertaste and finish. Sadly for Ben, not nice. NR. Double decanted 8 hours.

A sample tasted on 13/10, kindly taken on the night. Fine colour, a clear light garnet. Nose got an ‘ooh Jesus no’. Wine sadly spoiled by VA and undrinkable (I had a sip and that was more than enough).
