1970 The Last Drop Colheita (bottled 2019)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1970 The Last Drop, a project by by Ben Howkins and Cristiano van Zeller. Bottled in 2019 in 75cl and boxed (and tasted) alongside a bottle of wine from 1870 (as well as a 5cl bottle of each wine). Ginger brown colour, 40% opaque. Rich and delicious ginger snap nose with the sweetness of caramelised sugar against the spice of root ginger. Wonderfully elegant on the palate, generous flavour and a lovely structure. The elegance of the wine is just exquisite. Really rather lovely. 92/100.

Tasted at the pre-event lunch to the Grand 1970 Tasting on 2-3 October 2025.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
