1970 Niepoort Colheita (bottled 1987)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1970 Niepoort, bottled in 75cl in 1987. A mid-olive brown colour, 50% opaque. Gently spiced star anise on the nose, so wonderfully expressive. Gentle and subtle with a delicious texture and such glorious complexity. A touch of coffee on the aftertaste, then a lovely lingering red toffee finish that fades a little too quickly. Rather nice, but not stellar. 93/100.

Tasted at the pre-event lunch to the Grand 1970 Tasting on 2-3 October 2025.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
