Offline at Conky's Place - Summer 08

Right then.
Finally broached the subject with Deborah, and got the go ahead.
So I'm now thinking of dates. I've had a request for a Saturday, which is fine by me. I was considering the end of July, but now there maybe a Dutch trip early in July, and Derek appears to be on his Holls. I'm also Chief marshal at the 6th Hole at the British Open all through the 3rd week of July.
So July is looking grim. Which pushes us into August. So we'll start the complication Rota for August. Which Saturdays are really not on for anyone who is considering attending, and we'll see what we are left with?
Deb says she will be the Genial Hostess when we are getting going. She's then reserving the right to visit a mate to get drunk on ordinary stuff, before returning when we are all waffling, and she'll be drunk enough to put up with us.
So, any thoughts? I'd say about 6 plus me seemed to work well last year?
Alan.

Alan,
Do you mind if I split this into a separate thread?

I'm tied up first two weeks in August Friday or a Saturday would be good for me.Chief Marshal that conjures up an image of a stetson cigar smoking gunslinger wearing the silver star.

This is me as we speak, with the light fading fast. Out on the decking with the laptop, contemplating the late Summer...
Right then, how about the last two weeks in August? If anyone who's interested chips in, and we'll see what we're left with.
Now I've had a botle of Chards, had a few Bells and lemonade. Should I finally try one of those Vargallas 98's, or whatever they were called. or will be it be wasted on a Public Holiday Drunk???

I doubt that my timing will allow me to attend Conky’s increasingly-traditional annual Port-In-The-Garden Tasting, but I commend it to any who can be there.

Late August works for me but probably best to avoid the Bank Holiday weekend as some might have family stuff to do.
Theme?

Work a Sandemans 60 into the equation, and I'm good to go!
Life's a Beach!
Swinging 60's! (Calm down Derek, that's a phrase!)
Or anything else really....

Tell me when it is and I will make a major effort to be there.

So it's up and running. We're trying to squeeze in Alex, Simon and Derek around late August-ish. Jules will be sorely missed on a few fronts, who's going to eat the dead animal parts left by the Southern Jess's the morning afterwards...
Anymore for anymore?

I'm willing to kidnap AHB and keep him in the boot of my car for a few weeks and make him come along to this. I'll make sure he has some good port on him before I bag him

It would be good, if you could, but you know how he gets nose bleeds when he gets to high altitudes!
A quick decision on whether the theme is horizontal 1960

I own just one bottle of Fonseca 1960, and some Sandeman 1970 and 1977. AHB will be at my father’s this coming Friday. A quick decision on whether the theme is vertical Sandeman or horizontal 1960 would therefore be helpful.

I'm not to bothered on the line up of port as the company is guaranteed to be good Conky has a 58 of mine we should open up as it's a leaker.I think just no theme just bring what you've got spare. The boss has said he would give me a car to travel Friday so Friday Saturday is no problem I'll just have to see when we get back from France.

Well thats not a bad start, 58 and 60 Sandemans. Like Simon said, maybe if people chip in with those type of bottles, a story will emerge.

Yep - I'd like a story. My supply of interesting VP has diminished, so will be looking out for stuff and a theme would help.

My attendance will depend purely and simply on my travel plans around the time of the offline. August will be tough, simply because of the commitments that I already have in my diary.
However, the offline summary has been updated to point at this thread.

If the line up of ports is sufficiently exotic, I can do the journey from Bolton on my knees.

Just to let you know I'm focussing on the British Open Golf and my Clubs Marshalling efforts at the moment, but when that finishes, I'll be asking who's available for the second half of August, or there abouts. Plus what format, etc, if it gets off the ground.
The Open finishes on the 20th July. (and NO Tiger Woods!)
Shouldn’t you lot have chosen a date by now?
