1962 Quinta do Noval Nacional

Post by jdaw1 »

A zombie / in-law invasion needed to be escaped by one of us, and another proposed that the theme be ‘Vintage Port that you would like to drink if you had not Vintage Port for 7 months’. At the Boot & Flogger, on Monday 29th December 2025.

NN62, dark dark dark red, 80% opaque. Early rich unctuousness, then bitter and very dry mid-palate. I liked, but not rounded and well-shaped as a great Port should be.

1962 Noval Nacional, decanted 3 hours. Dark Red with a medium rim. Spicy dark fruit on the nose, full of black cherry and an element of floral hawthorn. Just as rich and primary on the palate with black cherry and a glorious black cherry and lemon acidity. Wonderfully youthful, such expressive fruit backed by glorious acidity and a firm set of bitter tannins which are nearly fully integrated. The aftertaste is dominated by the Amalfi lemon, which lingers beautifully for a long time. Really lovely. 93/100.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
