In a thread elsewhere on TPF we have discussed the possibility of a virtual offline on the date and at the time of the first post on TPF.

I propose that we move the discussion here, and suggest the following as the basis for discussion and amendment.

All those participating try to be online at the time of the first post (22:15 BST on Saturday, June 20).

Each person taking part should be drinking and posting notes on a bottle of the port that is their rank.

Should your rank be a port that you would not wish to drink or cannot get hold of, admin may be able to be persuaded to change your rank to something more suitable.

I shall be there (virtually) but need to see what my rank will be - I don't have any Martinez '85!

It is the first one on the list I actually own, and if it makes a diffierence to my request, the first Port I have tried specifically as a result of a recommendation from TPF friends!

4.6 posts per day until 20 June would give the same result

Having been de-admined for previous offences in the past I'm going to leave all such requests to Admin 1 to decide (at least until the night of the offline )

That is approximately 1 ever 3.5 waking hours, assuming 16 hours awake per day. If I manage 18 waking hours it is 1 every 4 hours. Should be manageable then!

I can't stop posting and a Martinez 85 is equivalent to a Vesuvio 94 with some minor adjustment

But they are locked away in a vault and unable to be torn apart. I am helpless and looking for assistance from a friend who may be able to release one from his personal stock with the promise of a replacement in the future and who may be looking to acquire a Martinez 85. Where could I find such a kind-hearted soul?

OK - so not quite the same as a V94 but it could be used as part of a 2for1 swapsie if only I could find some one with a kind heart and a bottle of V94

A kind soul has offered to sell me some V94 so a swapsie deal is no longer necessary. However, I am still happy to part with a Mz85 for either cash or an equivalently priced bottle of something if you want one for this Off-line?

Splendid idea,

although I like the Noval LBV unfiltered better than the Niepoort, I just got a box of 2001 LBV, which is very good.

Since I finished all my Warres LBV last year, I am limited to another 4 posts until then...

Yes please. I enjoyed the Martinez 1985 last time I had one and it would be nice to be able to open a bottle of my rank for our anniversary. Whether sale or swap, I'll let you know tomorrow once I've been able to see what I have at home for around that cost.

An idea occurs to me! I could have both my current status to hand for the purposes of posting in accordance with the currently proposed rules - AND something of my choice to celebrate!

I've got a great idea as well.
I'm going to drink that Warre's Warrior, but before I do I'll rinse the decanter with a Graham's VP.

How about you rinse the decanter with the Warre's Warrior (and perhaps drink a little) then decant the Graham's and drink that.

I thought the rules were you had to drink the whole Warrior.

I clearly recall the thread discussing the need to properly clean your decanter before pouring the precious liquid in. Of course you cannot help a little wastage in that process!

Depends how you see the time difference - working in your favour or against you!

In your favour - 10pm means drinking at 5pm New York time and all us Brits will be done by midnight.

Against you - you start at 5pm and drink for 7 hours minimum.

The latter could of course also be construed as in your favour if you do not have an early start!

Heh, I went back to the TNs on LBV Taylor and they weren't too encouraging... I'd almost welcome an opportunity to drink some of it up!

Don't forget that there's always the opt out - you can ask one of the admins to change your rank temporarily for the tasting. That way you get to drink whatever you want for the birthday party!

We could introduce some creativity to this! My train of thought:

1. You have clearly been very active in the last year.
2. Your current ranking goes only to 3000+ posts.
3. A few people are approaching that rank.
4. There is no apparrent contingency for future ranks.

So my proposal:

If you want to request alternative status for 20th June, it must be a completely new rank and port that does not already feature. You are requested to justify that Port as a rank and propose its level as part of the meaningless drivel that evening. I am sure the levels of scrutiny will be sufficiently high!

All subject to the Admin's having final say of course!

We do have ranks above 3,000 but nobody is anywhere near yet so they have not been shown. Once you get to 3,000 you will be on Vesuvio 1994 and remain on it until the next level. There's no need for a higher level until somebody has reached the top one, yet foresight has given us a contingency.

I hereby kindly request to be Martinez 1994 for one day on June 20th, thus making it possible to participate in this virtual offline.

I will also help LadyR with her 'cheap ruby' tasting.

I have actually found someone who is selling a Fonseca Unfiltered LBV 2000! At least I can qualify if there is no last minute change of heart on status!

(I think I may be Fonseca by then!)

Hmm…as I’ll probably be on the Warre’s Warrior at that point, I might do a side-step and go for the Graham’s Six-Grapes which I think is pretty much the same thing but with some better reviews!
