An exciting discovery...!

Was looking through my bottles today and discovered the 2 Taylors Quinta De Vargellas 1995's I have are the Vinha Velha. A totally different proposition I gather having read the TN here!

:D :o

Yes, valuable (pricey!) and quite tasty. I've had the '95 VVVVP more often then any of the other versions of this from 1997, 2000 and 2004.

Not quite sure what they would cost me now, but I vaguely recall buying them at Taylors in about 2003 (with my now wife) at something like £30 each. I doubt I would have spent more than that per bottle at that time.

What would anyone recommend in terms of drinking - of a suitable age yet or need more time?

To replace them would cost in excess of £100 per bottle.

Drinking window - perhaps as little as another 20 years, perhaps needing another 50... Not one for the short term!

One to forget about for a while then!

It seems like someone at the Taylor's lodge has made quite an expensive mistake. As far as I know this port has always been very expensive, ever since release. Not bad at all Ben! 88)

I cannot remember exact price but I do know I would not have been in a position to spend much more than £30 per bottle then - nor indeed willing to do so! Maybe the £/EUR rate was very good for us?

Although I have not had this port yet I would venture to say 20 year minimum; 50-100 probably more like it. Taylor's age well.

You got one heck of a deal at that price!

I don't think it is going to make even 50 years - certainly not from now and very unlikely even 2045! I want to be in a fit state to enjoy this when I open it, not drinking it through a straw!

Drink it within the first 8 hours of the tasting then. After that, all the bottles meld into one, the room starts to spin and a straw is definitely the way to go.
