Champagne magnums

My father and I wish to split a case of magnums of champagne: dry, good quality, probably vintage, but not outrageously expensive. Does anyone have any recommendations better value than Mumm Belle Epoque Vintage 1999, 3Ã 1.5L, at £303?

AHB is our resident Champers Man - worth an email as he doesn't seem to be around here at the moment.

Champagne is such an individual taste that I hesitate to comment. Belle Epoque is a perfectly good marque, but not one that I would normally choose as it is not the one that Elizabeth and I prefer.
KillerB is far more of a Champagne expert than I am. I am only a second-hand expert, being married to one who knows which sparkling wines she likes and which she has not tried yet.
Having tried many different marques, we keep coming back to the house styles of Moet & Chandon and Dom Perignon, clichéd as they may be.

I do not think having a vintage Champagne as is important as it is with other types of wine. Most of the cuvee on good NV Champagne could already have several years of age.

1988 krug has been one of the finest krugs I've ever had. (oldest too) I've had the 95, 96 and the nv rose. The 95 and 96 are so closed that they are not enjoyable at all.
The NV Krug Rose is a very special champagne, but will cost you an arm and a leg. 600$ for a magnum.
the Krug NV is sweeter and has a very pleasant yeasty flavor that doesn't borderline sour that's also very good and friendlier on the wallet.
Veuve cliquet 95 le grand dame is a fantastic bottle that could be had for < 300$ in the states.
One of my favs are the pol roger churchills 95s ... i think they can also be had <300$ in the states ... (magnums I'm talking about)
Dom 98 and dom 95 are both incredibly soft fine bubbles and sweeter then bruts..

The Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque 1996 Magnum which is a cracking vintage is £155.00 from Speciality Drinks.
Available Here
That site is fantastic for spirits.

Thank you, but the occasion for which it was needed has now passed.

No. That event was in the UK; now I’m back in the U. S. of A.
