Decanted cleanly off a small bed of very fine sediment. Deep red centre, dark and opaque. Lovely nose of blackcurrants and vanilla. Initial impact in the mouth is a little watery but the flavours are lovely. First thoughts are of cedar wood and tobacco but then comes a wave of blackcurrants that just doesn't stop. Structure comes from a stiff acidic backbone, which supports lots of complexity. Tannins are subdued and require work before they show themselves. Aftertaste is pleasant, with vanilla pod start and fruit ever present, but doesn't last for long enough. An enjoyable wine that is drinking well at the moment but is nothing special. 4-4 on Tom's scale (but I may be being a little harsh) or 88/100. Tasted on 25/11/06. Decanted for 10 hours when tasted.
